Is It Too Late to Start Strength Training After 50? Meet Ruth, Who Started at 70.
The best time to start was 20 years ago. The second best time is today.
Have you ever noticed there's never really a "good" time to start exercising?
Think about the last year.
Has there been a single week when life completely slowed down?
Probably not.
There's always another vacation, another holiday, another work project, or another reason to wait.
Life has a way of filling every empty space on our calendar.
But here's the good news...
It's never too late to start.
Last week, our Orange Shoe team hosted a Spa Day at one of our senior living communities. Between the laughter, conversations, and a little pampering, we met someone who left a lasting impression.
Her name is Ruth.
Ruth is 90 years old.
As we talked, she casually shared something that stopped us in our tracks.
"I didn't start exercising until I was 70."
Think about that for a moment.
Many people believe 70 is too late to begin a fitness journey.
For Ruth, it was just the beginning.
Twenty years later, she's still smiling, staying active, and enjoying life.
Her story perfectly illustrates an old proverb:
"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."
Is It Ever Too Late to Start Strength Training?
One of the biggest myths we hear from new clients is:
"I wish I would have started years ago."
Maybe.
But starting today is far better than waiting another year.
Research continues to show that adults in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond can build strength, improve balance, increase bone density, boost energy, and enjoy a better quality of life through strength training.
You don't need to become an athlete.
You simply need to take the first step.
Whether your goal is to:
- Stay active and independent
- Keep up with your grandchildren
